I found out about Excellent, Pioneers of Sand Dams when they made an appeal on Radio 4 in 2011. Please check Excellent out and I’m sure you’ll be as impressed as I was when you see what can be achieved with something as simple as a sand dam.
When I found out that they had an unfilled place in the 2012 London marathon, and that they only get one every five years, I decided I had to run for Excellent!
Those of you who know me will know that I lean towards the esoteric and sometimes downright stupid in my running, and so you may be surprised that I went for something so mainstream!
I had a target of sub-3:15, which I missed by 2 minutes and 16 seconds! I’m also currently not quite half-way to my £1500 fundraising target. So I will continue to raise money for Excellent, and have entered the Kent Coastal Marathon on 2nd September to have another try at 3:15. 2 minutes and 16 seconds isn’t a lot to knock off!
However, let’s face it, you shouldn’t be supporting Excellent because I’m doing something that will push my limits. Support Excellent because they’re doing really good work.
I’ve set up a Just Giving page to collect donations, so please give.
